Samsung SSD and Storage Data Recovery

service thumbnail

This page covers Samsung-branded SSDs, portable storage, and internal drives, subject to Sherlock’s current intake scope—not Samsung phones. For a damaged or inaccessible phone, use the separate Cell Phone Data Recovery service; Sherlock does not promise to bypass screen locks or encryption.

If a Samsung storage device is not detected, reports the wrong capacity, disconnects, or leaves a volume inaccessible, stop testing it. An SSD can fail without noise, and repeated scans, firmware changes, or writes may reduce the remaining recovery options.

Sherlock Data Recovery is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with or authorized by Samsung.

Stop Writing to the Device

The safest next step depends on whether the loss is logical, electronic, firmware-related, or physical. Until the device is evaluated:

  • do not initialize, format, repartition, or reinstall an operating system;
  • do not update SSD firmware to try to make missing data reappear;
  • stop repeated repair tools, benchmark tests, cloning attempts, and recovery scans;
  • do not keep reconnecting a portable SSD that drops offline, heats unusually, or appears intermittently;
  • do not open the case, swap components, solder connectors, or apply power through an improvised adapter; and
  • do not save recovered files back onto the same storage device.

Power down the computer when the internal SSD is unstable. Keep the original portable enclosure, cable, adapter, and host-system details. Preserve encryption passwords, recovery keys, and account information you are authorized to use; recovery work does not defeat encryption.

Samsung Storage Problems We Evaluate

“SSD not detected” is a symptom, not a complete diagnosis. The fault may involve power, an interface, enclosure electronics, the SSD controller, firmware, NAND flash, encryption, partitions, or the filesystem.

Cases may begin with:

  • a SATA SSD, NVMe module, or portable SSD that no longer appears;
  • a device showing zero, the wrong capacity, or an intermittent connection;
  • read errors, freezes, severe slowness, or a volume that becomes read-only;
  • deleted folders, an accidental format, a missing partition, or an inaccessible filesystem;
  • failure after a power interruption, electrical event, update, or system crash; or
  • a damaged connector, enclosure, or host computer.

Model, interface, encryption, current behavior, and activity after the loss all matter. Sherlock evaluates the actual storage before saying whether work is appropriate. The broader service path is explained on Solid-State Drive Recovery.

Why SSD Recovery Is Not Hard Drive Recovery

An SSD stores information in NAND flash and relies on a controller, firmware, and internal mapping to locate that information. There are no spinning platters, so an SSD may fail silently. A device that still powers on may not be able to present usable data to the computer.

Deletion, formatting, and TRIM

When files are deleted from an SSD, TRIM and later internal cleanup may make the affected flash pages unavailable. The effect varies by system, device state, and what happened afterward. Powering down promptly and preventing new writes is more useful than running repeated undelete tools. No one should promise a deleted-file result without evaluating the specific case.

Encryption and access credentials

Encryption may be provided by the drive, operating system, or other software. Preserve the correct password or recovery key. Sherlock can assess the storage condition but does not promise to bypass encryption, authentication, or access controls.

Firmware and controller symptoms

A device that shows the wrong identity or capacity can have more than a simple partition problem. Consumer firmware updates and repair utilities are designed to restore device operation, not preserve inaccessible files. Do not apply them when the data is the priority.

Portable SSDs, Internal Drives, and Other Samsung Media

Portable and external SSD storage

The USB cable and enclosure electronics are part of the connection path. If the device has dropped offline, overheated, suffered impact or liquid exposure, or begun appearing intermittently, stop connection tests. Keep the complete portable device and its original cable for intake.

Internal SATA and NVMe SSDs

Record the computer model, operating system, failure sequence, and whether the device is the boot drive. Do not reinstall the operating system or let a computer shop reset the SSD. If it was removed, protect the connector and do not attach it repeatedly through unknown adapters.

Legacy magnetic drives and memory cards

Some older Samsung-branded storage uses magnetic hard-drive technology rather than flash. Those cases follow the physical and logical considerations described under Hard Drive Recovery. A Samsung-branded SD or microSD card is a different media category; use Memory Card Recovery so intake can confirm that service scope.

How a Samsung Storage Case Proceeds

1. Identify the storage and the important files

Call with the complete model, capacity, SATA, NVMe, or USB connection, host computer, symptoms, recent damage or updates, encryption status, and prior attempts. List the folders, dates, or file types that define a useful result.

2. Protect and submit the right components

Intake will explain whether to bring or ship the storage alone, the portable enclosure and cable, or the host computer. Do not dismantle or repair the device first. Package loose media against static and physical damage.

3. Receive an evaluation and firm quote

Sherlock examines the submitted storage to diagnose the problem and determine whether recovery work is appropriate. A firm quote comes before approved work. A diagnostic fee may apply; the evaluation is not advertised as free. The device’s condition and security features mean outcome and turnaround cannot be guaranteed beforehand.

4. Review what was recovered

If no requested files are recovered, there is no recovery fee, although a diagnostic fee may still apply. If the result is partial, you may accept it at the quoted price or decline it without a recovery fee. The current terms are on Sherlock’s Service Policy.

Samsung Data Recovery FAQs

Is this service for Samsung phones?

No. This page is intentionally focused on Samsung-branded storage. Phone intake, device access, and encryption require a separate scope through the cell phone service.

Can you recover a Samsung SSD that is not detected?

It may be appropriate for evaluation, depending on model, interface, encryption, damage, and prior activity. Stop repeated power and adapter tests, then call with the complete model and symptoms.

Does TRIM make deleted SSD files impossible to recover?

TRIM can reduce the available data after deletion, but its effect depends on the SSD, operating system, power state, and subsequent use. Stop writes and do not assume an outcome before evaluation.

What if my Samsung SSD is encrypted?

Preserve the password or recovery key and tell intake what created the encryption. Sherlock does not promise to bypass encryption or authentication controls.

Should I install a firmware update or run a repair utility?

Not when the files are the priority. Those actions can change device state or stored structures. Record the current version and error, power down, and ask before making changes.

Do you evaluate portable SSDs and older Samsung hard drives?

Potentially, after the exact model and condition are confirmed. Keep a portable drive with its enclosure and cable; describe an older magnetic drive clearly so it can be routed correctly.

Talk to Sherlock Before the Next Power-On

Sherlock Data Recovery’s lab is at 500A E 87th St, Suite 4th Floor, New York, NY 10128. Phone lines are available 24/7; lab visits and drop-offs follow normal lab hours. Confirm a time before arriving.

Call (212) 249-9888 or (800) 267-4712, or submit your Samsung storage recovery case. Tell us the model, connection, symptoms, encryption status, prior attempts, and the files you need. We will explain the proper intake, evaluation, and firm-quote process.
